  • The Parent University is COMING SOON!

    What is Parent University?

Parent University is a community collaborative led by Greene County Schools to help parents become full partners in their children’s education. Greene County Schools partners with community agencies and organizations to offer free courses and family events and activities that will equip families with new or additional skills, knowledge, resources and confidence.

What is the Goal of Parent University?

The goal of Parent University is to increase parent engagement in the schools and empower parents to raise children who are successful in school, and in life. Workshops are primarily held in the Greene County School System’s Family Resource/College and Career Readiness Center and district schools however the goal is to branch out into the public library, houses of worship, businesses and other community locations. Workshops range from topics like Helping Your Child Prepare for the End-of-Grade and End-of-Course Tests, to Preparing for Kindergarten, Middle and High School, to Surviving Adolescence. A list of course topics will be available soon.

    Why Be Engaged?

Research has shown that parents can increase a child's academic success through their engagement with schools and communities. Parental engagement improves student morale, attitudes, and academic achievement across all subject areas.  Even if you are not a parent, we encourage you to become involved within Parent University.  Volunteer opportunities will be available and details are forthcoming.

The goal of Parent University is to offer courses in four primary strands:

Strand I is Parenting Awareness: These offerings will provide information that can empower parents to raise confident, educated children ready for the 21st century. Strengthening parents means strengthening children.

Strand II is Helping Your Child Learn in the 21st Century: These offerings will provide parents information about how to support children’s academic opportunities and challenges today.

Strand III is Health and Wellness: These offerings will support information and activities to help families build healthy lifestyles physically as well as emotionally.

Strand IV is Personal Growth and Development: These offerings will help parents to grow personally and professionally, so they can become the most effective advocates for their children.
